An easy to understand book. The author itemizes and explains the basic concepts that the reader must know before - and after - he starts a new business.
This is a great read for existing owners. That's what many have told me. It refreshed basic concepts - especially Appendix A - and helped maximize their profits. Linda M. wrote, "Thanks Rudy".
First, the possible entrepreneur, you, has to consider and evaluate his/her own personal qualities. Do you have the strong desire, the willingness to be your own boss? Do you have the courage, the stamina required? The author thinks most people do - they just realize it. This book will help you make up your mind - either you will go for it or not.
Once you pass this threshold, which is a major decision, the rest is easy. The author will walk with you through the various phase of starting a business from selecting the type of business, the name of your company and the details of licenses, opening bank accounts etc.
"You can do it" is the phrase stated in every chapter to emphasize how easy it is to start a business and be successful - once the decision is made. Yes, there is work involved as well as a great deal of creativity and self-confidence. You, the reader, are literally taken by the hand through every phase, through every important step to form your own, personal business.
Once the basic information described in this book is absorbed, there are two appendixes. In Appendix A, the author describes in great detail the four methods used in business to set prices. This information in Appendix A is, in my opinion, the best summary of how prices are determined in any business, from large corporations to the small retail store. You can apply any one of these methods and stay ahead of your competition.
In Appendix B there are 12 current computer applications that will simplify your business operations. It's good to know these exist and you may use them.
You won't have to read through hundreds of pages to know what is necessary to start a business. You don't have to attend classes, take tests. The author has combined his many years (he says it feels like a hundred years) of street smart experience operating businesses with his years of teaching Economics at two prestigious universities. He still teaches a limited schedule at a local college.
